Enjoy your horsemanship journey
Buying Sky
was the best decision my family and I could’ve made. We’ve learned more than I
ever imagined, and there is still so much to come. Horsemanship is a journey.
You won’t learn everything in a day, and if you meet someone who thinks they
know it all, just smile and realize they are missing out by stopping their
journey early. John Maxwell says the greatest enemy of learning is knowing, and
I think he’s right.
Yes,
there will be bumps in the road. Not every training or riding session with your
horse will go as planned. I have been in tears on more than one occasion when I
couldn’t figure out how to communicate something to Sky. But then I remember
the first time she fully relaxed and stretched her back on the lunge line or
when I cantered her in a field for a long distance. Those moments are
exhilarating! It’s all about balance. You will have bad days and so will your
horse, but that doesn’t mean you throw in the towel.
Owning
a horse will stretch you, challenge you, and give you a sense of purpose like
nothing you’ve ever experienced. Always consider your horse’s point of view and
be willing to give as much as you take, and you will have a wonderful
partnership for life. Because there’s nothing in the world like owning and
loving a horse.
“A horse will never tire of a rider who possesses both
tact and sensitivity because he will never be pushed beyond his possibilities.”
Nuno Oliveira
